Cookie and Tracking Policy

What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website saves on your device. Some are essential. Others, like analytics cookies, are optional. Under the UK’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), I need your consent before setting anything that isn’t strictly necessary.
Your choice
When you first visit, a banner asks you to Accept, Reject or open Settings. Reject is just as easy to choose as Accept. Optional cookies are only set if you accept, and you can change your mind at any time using Cookie settings in the footer of every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the Site working.
Strictly necessary cookies (always on)
These don’t need your consent because the Site can’t work safely without them.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
__cf_bm | Cloudflare (security layer in front of the Site) | Helps tell real visitors from bots so the Site stays secure. It isn’t used for advertising or to track you across sites. | 30 minutes |
gfai_consent (cookie-choice cookie) | This Site | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies | Up to 12 months |
| Server, load-balancing and caching cookies, if any | Hostinger / LiteSpeed | Keep the Site fast and available | Session or short-lived |
Optional analytics cookies (off unless you accept)
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors so I can count them | 2 years |
_ga_<ID> (for example _ga_ABC123XYZ) | Google Analytics 4 | Keeps the state of your visit (session) | 2 years |
Google Analytics 4 doesn’t store full IP addresses. The data is kept in Google Analytics for 14 months. Google acts for me as a processor for this data. See Google’s privacy policy. If you’d rather not be tracked by Google Analytics on any site, you can install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
If you reject analytics, Google Analytics is never loaded and none of the cookies above are set. If you accept and later withdraw, I stop loading it; you may also want to delete the existing _ga cookies in your browser.
Cookies set by other sites when you click through
Amazon: this Site doesn’t set Amazon cookies. When you click a link to Amazon and land on Amazon’s site, Amazon sets its own cookies so it can credit me for any qualifying purchase. This happens on Amazon’s site under Amazon’s cookie notice. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Google Play, YouTube and music platforms: these set their own cookies once you arrive on them.
No advertising or social-media tracking
The Site doesn’t use advertising cookies, remarketing, or social-media tracking pixels.
Changes
If I add or remove cookies, I’ll update this page and, where needed, ask for your consent again.
